King David was the second king of Israel and the son of Jesse. Before he was anointed by Samuel, he was a shepherd boy. He killed the giant Goliath with a stone. He ruled Israel for forty years and had many sons. His successor was King Solomon, who was his youngest son.

Early Life
David's first mention was in 1 Samuel 16, where God told the prophet Samuel to go and anoint the new king of Israel. God told Samuel who would be the next king, and David was the one he chose.
